The chemistry can still resemble mine drainage when thaw exposes sulfide rock. Blaming mining by default would miss a climate-driven natural-rock pathway.

Orange usually means oxidized iron particles, but it does not tell whether the iron came with high sulfate and toxic metals or from a lowland wetland redox process. You need pH, sulfate, and metal measurements to know which pathway is operating.
